Ingredients

For the Scone Bake:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1/2 cup whole milk

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

For the Maple Glaze:

1/2 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons pure maple syrup

1-2 tablespoons milk (adjust for desired consistency)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare a 9x13 inch baking dish by greasing it with cooking spray or lining it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon. Use a whisk to mix these dry ingredients thoroughly until they are evenly blended.

Cut in the Butter: Take your cold, cubed butter and add it to the bowl with the dry mixture. Using a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingertips, combine the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces still visible.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk, large egg, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and uniform.

Integrate the Ingredients: Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients while gently stirring with a spatula. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix to maintain a light texture. If desired, gently fold in the packed brown sugar and chopped walnuts.

Bake the Scone Mixture: Transfer the combined batter into your prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Make the Maple Glaze: While the scone bake is in the oven, prepare the maple glaze. In a mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar, pure maple syrup, milk, and vanilla extract. Use a whisk to stir until the mixture is smooth and pourable. Adjust the consistency as needed by adding a little more milk for a thinner glaze or more powdered sugar for a thicker one.

Finish and Serve: Once the scone bake is done, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for about 5-10 minutes. Generously drizzle the prepared maple glaze over the top while it's still warm. Cut into squares and serve warm for a delightful, comforting treat!
