Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons instant yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

1 cup warm water (about 110°F)

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves of garlic, minced

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

Sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar, stirring until well mixed. Gradually pour the warm water and olive oil into the bowl, mixing with a wooden spoon or spatula until a shaggy dough begins to form.

Knead the Dough: Turn the rough dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead it with your hands for about 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. Once kneaded, shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover the bowl tightly with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm environment for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Prepare the Garlic Butter Mixture: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter until fully liquid. Stir in the minced garlic and chopped parsley, cooking gently for about 2-3 minutes until the garlic becomes fragrant. Avoid browning the garlic to keep the flavor mild. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.

Shape the Rolls: After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces, about the size of a golf ball. Roll each piece into a long rope, approximately 8 inches in length, then form each rope into a knot. Place the knotted rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are spaced apart.

Brush with Garlic Butter: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the knotted rolls are arranged on the baking sheet, generously brush each roll with the garlic butter mixture. Be sure to spoon some of the garlic and parsley onto the surface as well. Finish by sprinkling light pinches of sea salt over the tops.

Bake the Rolls: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and puffed up. Keep an eye on them toward the end of baking to ensure they do not overbrown.

Serve and Enjoy: After baking, remove the rolls from the oven and, if desired, brush them with any leftover garlic butter for extra flavor. Allow the rolls to cool for a few moments before serving. These toasted garlic knotted rolls are best enjoyed warm and pair delightfully with your favorite dip or a hearty soup.
