Ingredients

1 ½ lbs ground turkey

1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

¼ cup milk

¼ cup BBQ sauce (plus extra for topping)

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon dried oregano

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnishing

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan with cooking spray or oil to prevent sticking.

Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add the ground turkey, whole wheat breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, milk, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. If you are opting for cheese, fold that into the mixture as well.

Mix Well: Use your hands or a sturdy wooden spoon to mix everything until just combined. Take care not to overmix; this will keep your meatloaf tender rather than dense.

Shape the Meatloaf: Carefully transfer the meat mixture into the greased loaf pan. Use your hands to press it evenly into the pan, forming a classic loaf shape.

Add Topping: To enhance flavor and maintain moisture, spread a layer of BBQ sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf.

Bake: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45-55 minutes. It’s done when the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) and the top has a beautiful caramelized finish.

Rest and Garnish: Once the meatloaf is baked through, remove it from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes to allow juices to redistribute. Before serving, garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color.

Serve: Slice the meatloaf into generous portions and serve with your favorite sides, such as creamy mashed potatoes or a medley of roasted vegetables, for a delightful meal!

                  Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes | Servings: 6

Presentation Tips: For an inviting presentation, place each slice on a colorful plate with a drizzle of additional BBQ sauce and a sprinkle of parsley. Consider adding a side salad for a fresh touch!
