Ingredients

1 pre-made pie crust or tart shell

3 ripe, firm pears, peeled, cored, and sliced thinly

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

For the Maple Mascarpone:

1 cup mascarpone cheese

2 tablespoons pure maple syrup

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

A pinch of fine sea salt

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the tart.

Prepare the Tart Shell: If you're using a homemade pie crust, roll it out into a flat round and gently place it into a tart pan. Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork to prevent it from puffing up. Place the tart shell in the refrigerator to chill while you prepare the filling.

Sauté the Pears: In a skillet over medium heat, add the unsalted butter and let it melt completely. Once melted, add the thinly sliced pears along with the brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, grated nutmeg, and lemon juice. Sauté the mixture for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the pears are slightly tender but still maintain their shape. If you're using chopped walnuts, add them in the last minute of cooking, then remove the skillet from heat.

Assemble the Tart: Take your chilled tart shell from the refrigerator. Carefully arrange the sautéed pears in an even layer over the bottom of the tart shell, ensuring they are spread out for even cooking.

Bake the Tart: Place the tart carefully in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust turns a golden brown and the pears become softly caramelized.

Make the Maple Mascarpone: While the tart is baking, prepare the maple mascarpone. In a mixing bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and sea salt. Mix until smooth and creamy, adjusting the sweetness based on your preference.

Cool and Serve: Once the tart is done baking, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10-15 minutes. Slice the tart into wedges and serve it warm or at room temperature, topped with a generous dollop of maple mascarpone.

Enjoy: For an added treat, consider pairing the tart with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a sprinkle of toasted walnuts for extra crunch and flavor!
