Ingredients

1 lb breakfast sausage (either bulk or links, with casing removed)

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 cups whole milk

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a spicy kick)

1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough or 2 cups homemade biscuit dough

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to preheat while you prepare the other ingredients.

    Prepare the Sausage Gravy:

      - In a large skillet placed over medium heat, crumble the breakfast sausage and cook until it's browned and cooked through, approximately 5-7 minutes.

        - Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir well to combine, cooking for an additional minute to create a roux.

          - Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps in the mixture. Keep stirring until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency, about 5-8 minutes.

            - Season the gravy with garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and add cayenne pepper if you're feeling adventurous. Remove the skillet from heat and set aside.

              Make the Biscuit Nests:

                - Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out each biscuit to about 1/4 inch thickness. Using a round cutter (approximately 3 inches in diameter), cut out circles from the dough.

                  - Take each dough circle and gently press it into a greased muffin tin or mini tart pan, forming it into a nest shape by pushing it into the bottom and up the sides.

                    Assemble the Nests:

                      - Pre-bake the biscuit nests in the preheated oven for about 7 minutes, just until they start to turn lightly golden.

                        - Carefully take the nests out of the oven and spoon a generous amount of the prepared sausage gravy into each nest. If using, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top of the gravy.

                          Final Bake:

                            - Place the filled biscuit nests back in the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes. Keep an eye on them until the biscuits are beautifully golden brown and the cheese has melted and is bubbly.

                              Garnish and Serve:

                                - Once baked, remove the nests from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. For a pop of color and freshness, garnish with chopped parsley before serving. Enjoy these delightful treats warm!
