Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80% lean)

1 tablespoon sesame oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced

¼ cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon chili paste (gochujang or sriracha for a spicy kick)

3 green onions, chopped (whites and greens separated)

1 cup cooked rice (jasmine or short-grain for best texture)

1 cup steamed broccoli (or your choice of stir-fry vegetables)

2 teaspoons sesame seeds (toasted for extra flavor)

Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Optional: Kimchi or pickled vegetables for serving

Instructions

Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet or wok, warm the sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef to the pan, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Cook until the meat is well browned and fully cooked, around 5-7 minutes. If there's excess fat after cooking, drain it off carefully.

Add Aromatics: Once the beef is cooked, stir in the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté the mixture for an additional 1-2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant and golden, being careful not to let it burn.

Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and chili paste until smooth. Pour this savory sauce over the browned beef in the skillet, stirring thoroughly to ensure the beef is well-coated. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 3-5 minutes until the sauce reduces slightly and thickens.

Incorporate Green Onions: Add the white parts of the chopped green onions to the skillet with the beef. Stir well and cook for another 1-2 minutes, just until the onions soften up. Season the mixture with salt and freshly cracked pepper according to your taste preferences.

Assemble the Bowl: In individual serving bowls, place a generous scoop of cooked rice at the base. Spoon the Korean ground beef mixture over the rice, ensuring to get an even distribution of the sauce. Add a helping of steamed broccoli on top or alongside, then sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and the green parts of the chopped green onions for a fresh touch.

Optional Toppings: For an authentic touch and extra flavor, serve the bowl with a side of kimchi or pickled vegetables.

Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy your delightful Korean Ground Beef Bowl warm, mixing all the wonderful layers together for a burst of flavor in each bite!
