Ingredients

8 oz (225 g) penne pasta

2 cups fresh broccoli florets

1 lb (450 g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts, diced into bite-sized pieces

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

3 cloves garlic, finely minced

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning blend

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

1 cup (240 ml) rich heavy cream

1 cup (100 g) finely grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: Fill a large pot with water, adding a generous amount of salt, and bring it to a boil. Carefully add the penne pasta and cook according to the package directions until it reaches an al dente texture. About 2-3 minutes before the pasta is done, stir in the fresh broccoli florets. Drain the pasta and broccoli together, then set aside.

Sauté the Chicken: In a large skillet, heat the extra virgin olive oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the diced chicken pieces. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Cook for approximately 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is thoroughly cooked and beautifully golden brown. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside on a plate.

Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds until the garlic becomes fragrant but not browned. Slowly pour in the heavy cream, bringing it to a gentle simmer. Gradually stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is creamy and smooth. If you enjoy a bit of spice, add the red pepper flakes at this stage.

Combine Everything: Return the cooked chicken and drained penne pasta to the skillet, gently tossing to combine the ingredients with the creamy sauce. Incorporate the broccoli into the mix, taking care to coat everything evenly with the delicious sauce. Allow the dish to simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes so the flavors meld together.

Serve: Once simmered, remove the skillet from the heat. Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and freshly ground black pepper if necessary. Plate the pasta, garnishing with fresh basil leaves for a burst of color and flavor before serving.

              - Presentation Tips: Serve the pasta in large bowls, ensuring each bowl gets a generous portion of chicken and broccoli. For an elegant touch, drizzle a little extra cream sauce on top and finish with a sprinkling of extra grated Parmesan cheese and a vibrant basil leaf.
