Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

4 slices of ham (choose Swiss or Black Forest for flavor)

4 slices of Swiss cheese

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs, beaten

1 cup breadcrumbs (Panko recommended for extra crunch)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper, to taste

½ cup melted butter

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish with cooking spray or a bit of oil to prevent sticking.

Prepare the Chicken: Take one chicken breast and place it between two sheets of plastic wrap. With a meat mallet or rolling pin, gently pound the chicken until it is an even thickness of about ½ inch. This ensures even cooking. Repeat this process for all chicken breasts.

Assemble the Cordon Bleu: Lay each flattened chicken breast on a clean surface and season both sides generously with salt and pepper.

        - On each chicken breast, place 1 slice of ham followed by 1 slice of Swiss cheese.

          - Roll the chicken tightly starting from one end, ensuring the ham and cheese stay tucked inside. Secure each roll with toothpicks or tie them with kitchen twine to prevent them from unrolling during cooking.

Set Up a Breading Station: Prepare three shallow bowls for the breading process:

              - Fill the first with all-purpose flour, seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and a bit of salt and pepper for taste.

                - The second should contain the beaten eggs.

                  - Fill the third with breadcrumbs.

                    Coat the Chicken:

                      - Take each chicken roll and first coat it in the seasoned flour, ensuring it’s evenly covered.

                        - Next, dip the floured roll into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess egg to drip off.

                          - Finally, roll the chicken in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure a good coating.

Prepare for Baking: Arrange the breaded chicken rolls seam-side down in the greased baking dish. Drizzle melted butter generously over each roll—this will enhance the flavor and contribute to a crispy, golden crust.

Bake the Cordon Bleu: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes. The chicken should be fully cooked with an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C), while the outside should be beautifully golden brown and crispy.

Serve: Once baked, carefully remove toothpicks or twine from the rolls. If you prefer, slice them into medallions for an elegant presentation. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color, and serve hot with lemon wedges on the side for added zing.
