1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened at room temperature

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed firmly

1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (optional; walnuts or pecans add a nice crunch!)

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan by greasing it lightly or lining it with parchment paper for easy removal later.

    Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Whisk them together until well blended, and then set the bowl aside.

      Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter along with both the granulated sugar and brown sugar. Continue beating for approximately 2-3 minutes until the mixture becomes light, fluffy, and creamy.

        Add Eggs and Vanilla: Incorporate the eggs into the creamy mixture, adding them one at a time and ensuring you beat well after each addition. Finally, pour in the vanilla extract and stir until fully combined.

          Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually incorporate the dry ingredient mixture into the wet mixture. Stir gently until everything is just combined; be careful not to over-mix as this can affect the texture.

            Fold in Chocolate Chips & Nuts: Carefully fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and, if you're using them, the chopped nuts. Make sure they are evenly distributed throughout the batter without overworking it.
