Ingredients

1 pound ground chicken

1/2 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon mixed dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

Salt and pepper to taste

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.

Mix the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, Italian breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, half of the shredded mozzarella cheese, the egg, minced garlic, Italian herbs, optional red pepper flakes, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Using your hands, mix the ingredients until everything is well combined and cohesive.

Form the Meatballs: With your hands, scoop out about 2 tablespoons of the mixture and roll it into a ball. Place the meatballs on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced 1-2 inches apart for even cooking.

Bake the Meatballs: Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until they are fully cooked, golden brown, and have reached an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Add Marinara Sauce: Once the meatballs are cooked through, carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven. Pour the marinara sauce generously over the meatballs, ensuring each one is well-coated.

Add Cheese Topping: Evenly sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese over the meatballs and marinara sauce. Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.

Garnish and Serve: After baking, remove the meatballs from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. For a finishing touch, garnish with fresh basil leaves. These flavorful meatballs can be enjoyed as an appetizer, served over a bed of spaghetti, or made into delicious sub sandwiches!

                Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 35 minutes | Servings: 4-6

Presentation Tips: Serve the meatballs on a platter drizzled with extra marinara sauce and topped with cheese. Pair with a side of garlic bread and a salad for a complete meal.
